CARING FOR TODAY....
In 1973/74
a group drawn from the churches, caring professions, local associations
and social services combined to form the Community Care Group,
under the co-chairmanship of the Reverend Denis Green, Hannah
Stanton and Dr. David Woodroffe. They worked from an office in
the United Reformed Church in Hampton Hill High Street. Their
objective was to tackle deprivation and social isolation wherever
it occurred in the Hamptons. Their approach; to foster a spirit
of 'community consciousness' and neighbourliness through a dynamic
policy of helping people to help themselves, and each other.
The Group,now
the Hampton and Hampton Hill Voluntary Care Group (VCG) today
operates from the spacious modernity of The Greenwood Centre.
Over the years, we have reacted positively to the challenges posed
by changing times and technologies. We have, however, steadfastly
held true to what we perceive our primary function.. .that of
innovatively linking needs to resources in the interests of promoting
community health and wellbeing.
....CREATING
FOR TOMORROW
VCG continues
to build bridges with other community-based organisations, developing
existing partnerships and forming new ones to help integrate services
and facilities This is entirely appropriate in that it complements
both local and national strategies such as best value, lifelong
learning and healthy living centres.
With the amenities and resources already in place, and, vitally, the
wholehearted commitment of all concerned, we look forward to a
strong, structured network functioning pro-actively for the enhancement
and enrichment of life in the Hamptons.
