About Us - Our History

Caring in the Hamptons
since 1974

In 1974 a group drawn from the churches, caring professions, local associations and social services combined to form the Community Care Group, under the co-chairmanship of The Reverend Denis Green, Hannah Stanton and Dr. David Woodroffe. They worked from an office in the United Reformed Church in Hampton Hill High Street. Their aim, as previously stated, to tackle deprivation and social isolation wherever it occurred in the Hamptons. Their approach - to foster a spirit of 'community consciousness and neighbourliness through a policy of helping people to help themselves and each other.

Of our 4 core projects, Hampton Enterprise Accessible Community Transport and Neighbourhood Care and Befriending are being developed and expanded. Concurrently, The Greenwood Centre offers a well-equipped and affordable venue for educational, social and recreational activities as well as a consultation facility for counsellors and therapists. Our Communications continue to target existing and potential volunteers, clients and funders. In the face of the challenging economic climate, as the Hamptons' own charity, we shall continue vigorously with our policy of providing the best possible local services for local people
